Sanduo Festival (Lijiang)

The Sanduo Festival is the most solemn and important ceremonial day for the Naxi people, dedicated to their patron god, Sanduo. It is held on the 8th day of the 2nd Lunar Month (February/March) primarily in Lijiang (near Baisha Village).

Knife Pole Festival (Nujiang Valley)

The Knife Pole Festival, also called Dao Gan Festival, is the Lisu people’s demonstration of bravery and warrior spirit. Held on the 8th day of the 2nd Lunar Month (February/March) in the Nujiang Valley.

Dali March Fair (Dali Ancient City)

This week-long event for the Bai people is held from the 15th to the 21st day of the 3rd Lunar Month (April/May) near Dali Old Town. It is a massive trade fair combined with traditional festivities like horse racing, folk dancing, and exchanging local crafts. It is the most significant festival in the Dali region.

Water Splashing Festival (Xishuangbanna)

The Water Splashing Festival (April 13th to 15th) is the most important holiday for the Dai and De’ang people, marking their New Year. Primarily held in Xishuangbanna, the festival involves splashing water to symbolize washing away bad luck and wishing blessings for the coming year.

Horse racing festival

Horse Racing Festival (Shangri-La)

The Horse Racing Festival is a major annual event for Tibetan people in Shangri-La (Diqing Prefecture). Held from May to August, it features thrilling equestrian competitions like speed races and archery on horseback, along with camping, singing, and dancing.

Torch festival

Torch Festival (Chuxiong & Lijiang)

Celebrated by the Yi, Bai, and Naxi peoples around the 24th to 26th day of the 6th Lunar Month (July/August) in regions like Chuxiong and Lijiang. People light huge torches and bonfires to ward off evil, followed by wrestling, bullfighting, singing, and dancing.
